Plantain Patagonia

"The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain."
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

During a particularly rainy spell this past Spring I decided I needed to find myself the perfect raincoat.  I wasn't just looking for perfect fit, perfect length, perfect look: It had to be yellow.  Not a dull or pale yellow, but a bright, lemon yellow; the kind of yellow you see kids wearing, splashing through puddles in oversized rubber boots.

I finally found what I was looking for in the Patagonia TorrentShell Jacket over at UnionMade Goods.  Unfortunately I spent too much time sitting around thinking about it, and they sold out.

I spent some time this past week perusing my favorite online thrift store, eBay, and found one in my size at a price so good it almost felt like stealing.

Not only is it the perfect yellow color, it fits great and it zips up into one of the mesh pockets when you're not using it.

Patagonia still sells them online, just not in Plantain Yellow.

Waxed Canvas and Wool

"Everything I sell is delivered free and guaranteed to give satisfaction."
~Leon Leonwood Bean, 1917

In 1912 Leon Leonwood Bean began selling his Maine Hunting Shoe; that first product has lead to nearly 100 years of quality craftsmanship.  Based on the original, LL Bean released a Waxed Canvas pair last year as a part of their Signature Line.

The middle of the Summer may not seem like the time to wear 10" hunting boots, but they were on sale so I decided to finally pick up a pair.
The past couple of years the classic "Bean Boot" has been making appearances everywhere.  While they do look great, I wanted a different look.  Sometimes different can be good -- In this case I think it may even be better.

Pair with some Wool-Blend Ragg socks and you'll stay warm and dry all Fall and Winter.  Your feet will thank you.

These will stay in the box for now, giving me something to look forward to come November.
